Aberdeen Grammar Rugby is delighted to announce the completion of Phase 1 and 2 of the upgrading of the training lights at Rubislaw. This will make a huge positive difference to the players, who will now be able to see what they are doing on training nights!!

 

This marks the culmination of many months of work by many people to make this improvement happen, and the Club was delighted to invite Isobel Maughan of ASM to perform the official switching-on ceremony on 3^rd November. 

 

Isobel was instrumental in organising the immensely successful fund-raising dinner in February earlier this year at which former All-Black captain Sean Fitzpatrick stole the show. The dinner raised £18,000 for the lights fund and the club is indebted to the organising committee and the 200 guests of the following local businesses who attended the event: Abbott Group/KCA Deutag, Acergy, ASM, Baker Hughes INTEQ, Big Partnership, BMI, Genesis Oil and Gas, Grant Smith Law Practice, KMS Fabrications Ltd, NEWS, Mackenzie PR, NOV ReedHycalog, Sandwich Larder, Shell UK, Silverstone Energy Ltd, Simmons & Co International Ltd, Sovereign Oil and Gas, Sparks, and Xodus Group

 

The final cost of the lights was over £41k and the effort from all involved in getting to this point is greatly appreciated by all at the club. Individual donations were also received and further pledges have been made by BP, Scottish Hydro, Aberdeen City Council and Canada Match Business Fund; after settling the lights account, any surplus will make a start to improving other facilities at Rubislaw.

 

A special note of thanks is due to Surfacelux Ltd, main contractor for the works. Chris Goodall and his team, with the support of groundsman Alan Christie, laboured throughout the recent horrendous weather to complete the Project on time and on budget to achieve an excellent end-product.
